1. Car Brake Pad has no fixed replacement cycle

Generally the brake pads need to be changed from 4 to 60,000 km, but everyone's driving habits are different and the wear and tear conditions are different. Therefore, if the brake pad light is on, or if the brakes are "beep" and the sound is very sharp, it will be checked or replaced, not necessarily completely.


2. Replace the brake pads

Then there are some tools you need for changing the brake pads. First of all, the corresponding type of brake pads you should have, when purchasing, ask the store for 2 wrenches, WD40 and piston top back.


3. Find the brake pads

Then before replacing the brake pads. Put down the handbrake first, then lift the car up and remove the tire. You can see the brake pump on the brake disc, and the brake pads are hidden inside.


4. Remove the brake cylinder

Then start to remove the brake cylinder. First use a wrench to unscrew the fixing screws on the brake cylinder. There is one on each of the fixing screws. We need2 wrenches to screw the fixing screw. 1 wrench to fix the outer screw head, and 1 wrench to turn the middle nut counterclockwise to remove the screw. If the screw is too tight to screw, you can spray a little WD40 to lubricate it. After the two fixing screws are removed, we can remove the entire brake cylinder. However, some brakes are connected to the brake cylinder of the car. It is necessary to remove the alarm line and remove the brake cylinder. After the brake cylinder is removed, you should not let it hang there. It is best to use something to hold it, otherwise it will be easy to tear the line on the pump.


5. Remove the old brake pads

Then, after taking it down, we see that the brake pads are generally 2 pieces, 1 piece is outside the brake disk, and 1 piece is inside. After removing the old brake pads, compared with the new brake pads, it was found that the old brake pads were obviously thinner.


6. Top return brake cylinder piston

This step is to bring the piston inside the brake cylinder back to the top. Because the new brake pads are thicker than the old brake pads, the pistons in the sub-pumps are not turned back, and the sub-pumps cannot hold the new brake pads. This requires a piston top return tool. Install the piston top return tool into the sub-pump, hold the piston, then turn the handle and push the piston back to the top.


7. Install new brake pads

Then the new brake pads are attached to the bracket. It is best to clean the mounting bracket of the brake disc before installation. Because there is a lot of brake powder on the bracket, it is not easy to get stuck in the brake pad, and there may be noise when the brake is applied. Clean the brake cylinder and clamp the brake pad. If there is an alarm line, the alarm wire is connected, and finally the screw on the cylinder is screwed back, and the brake pad is installed. Then use the foot to step on the brakes a few times, step on the pedal, this is to let the cylinder piston that has just been turned back to the position.


8. Run the new brake pads

The last thing to do is to break in the new brake pads. Find a broken road, drive the car to 80, 90 kilometers per hour, then slowly brake the brakes, come back several times, let the brake pads run in, the brake pads are completed.


So in general, changing the brake pads is not a very high technical activity, not to change the engine, a little harder, not as terrible as we think.
