Common Causes of Grinding Noise When Braking

Oct. 11, 2018

1. Break-in problem

Because of the uneven interface of new Brake Pads and old brake discs, it is easy to make noises when the pads are working. It takes time to make the interfaces of the two parts perfectly match during the brake-in time for better stopping power.

Advice: Press the pedals several times before starting the car just after the installation of the new Ceramic Disc Brake Pad. The normal brake-in time is 200 kilometers before the pads reach the best braking level.

Don’t make the continuous or emergent brakes during the brake-in time.

2. Solid objects

During the braking, the metal residues from the rotor fragments are broken away by “quench” of the rotors in water leakage and transferred into the friction material of brake pads. In this case, the brake is squealing and the rotor is easily damaged.

Solution: replace rotors and pads.
